The Movement

Religions for Peace

Religions for Peace is where the world’s religions join together to ensure that all people enjoy peace, harmony, and prosperity.

We see the world’s challenges and understand they can benefit from an interfaith, innovative, and inclusive response. Our nearly 100 national Interreligious Councils, or “IRCs,” in 6 regions, bring together, not only the vast influence and resources of all faith traditions, but also their spiritual commitment to achieve solutions that leave no one behind.

Religions for Peace’s global movement is distinguished by its global leadership, Interreligious Councils, and interfaith women and youth networks which are working at local, national, and regional levels as changemakers.  They respond to challenges – everything from violence and discrimination to environmental degradation – with bold solutions.

We are more than an organization. For 50 years, Religions for Peace has been a movement changing the world and challenging the status quo through our mutual conviction that religions are more powerful, inspiring, and impactful when they work together.

Women Of Faith Network

AWFN was launched in January 2003 as the continental expression of the Global Women of Faith Network – Religions for Peace.  It is a network in ACRL-RfP providing a platform for multi religious dialogue for women and to further advance the objectives of the council.

The network seeks to build networks and links among women different religious organizations and groups and increase their involvement in peace building, transforming conflict and advancing sustainable development in Africa.

AWFN also has the mandate to form networks in countries that do not have national women of faith networks as part of its objective in forming linkages and overall strengthening of the network.

The collective faith and goodwill of senior religious women in Africa; and the use of religious teachings and values has been instrumental to positively influence and impact African communities. There are different faiths represented in AWFN including Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, African Indigenous, Bahai’i, and Buddhist communities.

Over the years, AWFN has been actively involved in building the capacity of women to increase their involvement in political and socio-economic policy development and initiatives at the national, regional and international level.  African religious women have been mobilized to advocate for social justice and denounce harmful cultural practices. Religious women have also been empowered to increase their involvement and advocacy on maternal and child health, gender violence against women and girls and to end all forms of discrimination against women

Africa Inter-Faith Youth Network

The African Interfaith Youth Network—Religions for Peace (AIYN) is the Youth platform of the African Council of Religious Leaders — Religions for Peace (ACRL—RfP) and the continental expression of the Global Interfaith Youth Network (GIYN).
