The first in the continent to bring together different faiths in working for a common goal
Africa stands at a pivotal moment in its development journey, addressing intertwined challenges of environmental degradation and socio-economic vulnerability. Despite contributing less than 4% of global carbon emissions, the continent bears the brunt of climate change, with prolonged droughts, erratic rainfall, desertification, and deforestation threatening food security, water access, and livelihoods. Rapid urbanization and unsustainable land use further strain natural resources, while economic inequalities hinder communities’ ability to adapt and thrive.
By investing in climate resilience, inclusive governance, and sustainable development, Africa can harness its youthful population, technological advancements, and indigenous knowledge to forge a path toward sustainability. We at ACRL-RfP believe unlocking this potential requires a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach, one that bridges faiths, cultures, and communities to address systemic barriers and foster climate-resilient societies. Through interfaith dialogue and action, we are committed to tackling climate change, food insecurity, and environmental degradation, advocating for innovative, green economy solutions that safeguard Africa’s future.
Our Approach
At ACRL-RfP, we drive inter-religious collaboration, policy advocacy, and grassroots engagement to advance sustainable development and environmental resilience. Through faith-driven action, we empower communities to adopt sustainable practices, restore ecosystems, and build resilience against climate shocks.
Rooted in equity, we uplift marginalized voices- women, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and Indigenous groups. Through interfaith collaboration, we drive inclusive, community-led solutions that tackle environmental challenges while fostering social cohesion and economic empowerment.
Key Focus Areas
Climate Resilient Communities
We support communities in adapting to climate challenges through sustainable agriculture, water conservation, and reforestation. By promoting agroecology, conservation farming, and drought-resistant crops, we enhance food security while ensuring responsible water management. Through interfaith mechanisms, we equip farmers and communities with climate adaptation skills while restoring ecosystems to combat deforestation and strengthen resilience against climate shocks.
Green Policies for Sustainable Economies
We drive systemic change by advocating for policies that promote food security, environmental sustainability, and a green economy. By influencing local, national, and regional frameworks, we work to integrate climate adaptation and sustainable economic strategies into development agendas. Engaging religious leaders in collaboration with governments, regional bodies, and international partners, we champion green infrastructure investments and policy implementation to create long-term environmental and economic benefits.
Community-Driven Green Innovation
We empower communities to drive sustainable change through climate resilience initiatives and green entrepreneurship. By supporting youth, women, and marginalized groups, we foster innovation in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and eco-tourism. ACRL-RfP networks lead community-driven campaigns that promote climate action, while mentorship and capacity-building programs equip local actors with skills in green technologies and environmental advocacy. Through these efforts, we ensure that local voices shape environmental decision-making, fostering long-term sustainability and social impact.
